BHoP#079 The Power of Money
Dr Koontz and Rev Fisk discuss money and economics, starting with the building of centralized economic systems and the three functions of currency: why it is or isn't used. They talk about the mercantile revolution of the West, living in a "gift-economy" and avoiding debt, the unnatural aspects and historical uses of money, and the innovation of lending.
Mentioned in this episode: The Ascent of Money by Niall Ferguson

Did Koontz say the Greeks have history ”before 7th century BC?” Uhm as Confessional Lutherans we don’t believe the world to be that old...

Usury is only permitted against actual enemies, not just low trust random people. Usury is an intentional act of war, and therefore is only for enemies, not just neutral people. Money can be good, it’s Usury (interest) that is a declaration of war. And Gold and Silver do have actual stored value as they are hard to aquire and are usueful for much! Everything from old instruments made with silver and gold that lasted and lasted, to making beautiful art (art is real), or to making electronics.

Usury is the evil use of money. And of course when we use it for something specifically evil. But usury is always evil, whether what it’s being used for is intrinsically evil or good.
